The Life and Times
|
INTRODUCTION
This page will be a collection of items related to the lives of two wonderful people--Harold "Jerry" Foster Noble and his wife, Virginia Ann Bender Noble. At this hour, it is merely a bucket for the presentation of rough draft material and should not be considered as polished nor final. Please keep in mind this page and its linked contents are truly in a state of flux with the content, file names and URLs at risk of changing at any time. I will post notes regarding changes or improvements over time.
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE NOBLE AND BENDER FAMILIES -- THE CONTENTS OF A CIGAR BOX
In November 2012 while I was in Erie at Virginia's house looking for some light bulbs, I discovered a cigar box filled with photos letters and other personal items dating from the 1930s and 1940s. I presume there were put there by Virginia in recent years for some reason. It may have been as simple as she need a place for things she discovered in various places and the cigar box was handy. However, it has proven to be an interesting mix of items. The cigar box was a celebratory one that no doubt Jerry used to pass out cigars at the office to celebrate the birth of his second daughter, Kathy.
Online Album
The current rough scans are presented here. Most file names are serial numbers with some that are intelligently named. In most cased photos are followed in sequence by a scan of the back of the photo. This is not always the case. Final file names and structure will be more intelligent, and the gallery easier to navigate.
Most of the color photos were found in a larger box containing the cigar box.

REFLECTIONS ON VIRGINIA'S LIFE
This is a true work-in-progress. At the moment, this gallery is comprised of photos from my local hard drive before I found the cigar box. Ultimately, all of these resources will be reviewed and selected images will be used for a slide show.

WORLD'S GREATEST MOTHER-IN-LAW
Several years ago, I started a Web page dedicated to what I consider the world's greatest mother-in-law. O.K. I am prejudice, but most people that know Virginia will say she is a very special and unique person. It all began with a desire to post photos of our trip to Erie in December 2009.

VIRGINIA'S PHOTO ALBUMS
We have three photo albums Virginia created in the 1990s of family photos from World War II to the late 1980s. They are focused on the life and times of Jerry and her and do not include any photos of the children.

DIARY OF HEROLD F. NOBLE
I found a leather-bound notebook that turned out to be a diary or sorts of Jerry's thoughts when he was in high school. It is very interesting reading on his view of the blooming Nazi movement and his belief that it will result in a world war.

MEMORIAL TO HEROLD F. NOBLE
Shortly after Jerry's death, a memorial pamphlet was created with an associated Web page. The content of both are identical.

NOBLE & DICK MILITARY RECORDS & SAR APPLICATION
While researching on Ancestry.com, I discovered a new group of military-related records from World Wars I and II.Of special interest is Jerry's application for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution in 1948.It contains a fairly detailed genealogy prepared by a professional genealogist.
