Is this Bliley's first commercial product? |
While I cannot be certain, the first commercial product produced by the company may have been the one in the photo on the right. I found it in my father's personal archives in the 1960s.
The item is a 50 kc blank produced by "Collman & Bliley" while they were located in the Masonic Building at West 8th and Peach Streets in Erie. The first floor of the building was used for retail and the second floor was rented space and offices. This was were Charles Collman's father, an optician, had his offices and laboratory. Collman and Bliley used the lab for grinding crystals in 1930 to 1932.
The crystal is at the foot of the 2-1/4" square envelope. It measures approximately, 2-1/8" x 1/2" x 3/16". The labeling was done with a rubber stamp with lavender-blue ink. Click on the photo or here for a larger view.
